Boston (August 29, 2025) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), member of the Environment and Public Works Committee and Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement after the Trump administration declaredit will unlawfully withdraw and terminate $679 million in funding for offshore wind projects, including nearly $34 million for the Salem Wind Port Project in Massachusetts.

“In unlawfully and senselessly cutting hundreds of millions in federal funding to offshore wind projects, Trump just signed a death warrant for thousands of union jobs nationwide and guaranteed that families’ energy bills will continue to skyrocket.

“The Salem Wind Port Project is operating under a project labor agreement, with 800 union workers set to build Massachusetts’ energy future brick by brick. Now, these workers are left fighting for their livelihoods as job offers evaporate and offshore wind worksites grind to a halt.

“Between energy cost hikes for working families and job cuts for union workers, our communities are being sacrificed at the altar of Trump’s bizarre personal hatred of American-made wind energy. Trump claims to care about workers, but his actions are a direct attack on construction and trades workers nationwide.”

The Trump administration announced today that the Department of Transportation and Maritime Administration will illegally terminate or withdraw funding from twelve projects under the Nationally Significant Freight and Highway Projects (INFRA) program and the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIPD), totaling $679 million.
