Washington (July 8, 2019) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Chair of the Senate Climate Change Task Force and Senate author of the Green New Deal resolution, released the following statement in reaction to President Donald Trump’s remarks today on America’s environmental leadership.

“Donald Trump is the climate denier-in-chief, and is environmental record is the worst in American history,” said Senator Markey.“President Trump, aided by his Oil and Coal All-Star Cabinet, is paving the way to climate catastrophe. From suppressing climate science, to withdrawing the United States from the Paris climate accord, to giving handouts to Big Oil and King Coal, to weakening fuel economy standards, it’s as though the Trump administration’s environment and climate policy comes from the Upside Down.

“Instead of Trump’s dirty energy alternate reality, we need to fight for the clean energy future found in the Green New Deal. If we harness the power of wind and solar, embrace energy efficiency, invest in research and science, and deliver justice to frontline communities, we can create millions of jobs, reduce carbon pollution, and put an end to Trump’s environmental nightmare.”
