Jerusalem – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and the bipartisan delegation met today with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Opposition Leader Tzipi Livni and Lt. General Michael Moeller, U.S. Security Coordinator, Israel –Palestinian Authority.  The delegation also attended an Israel Memorial Day Ceremony and a Torch Lighting Ceremony at Mount Herzl.  Leader Pelosi released the following statement this evening:

“Our delegation was honored to meet with the distinguished President of Israel, Shimon Peres and with other leaders to discuss prospects for advancing the peace process in the Middle East.

“We were very moved by the two ceremonies we attended today honoring the victims of terror and those who have died in combat.  These ceremonies emphasized the urgency of moving rapidly to find a solution that will allow all Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and prosper.”
