June 23, 2011: Markey Statement on Withdrawal of Troops from Afghanistan
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) made the following statement on President Obama’s announcement about American troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“The conflict in Afghanistan is now America’s longest war and has cost far too much in lives and dollars. As America struggles to rebuild our economy, it is time to back bring home the billions of dollars funding this war so we can create jobs and strengthen the middle class, support programs that protect the health of our seniors and children, and invest in America’s clean energy future.
“We honor the sacrifice and service of all of the men and women who serve in Afghanistan. They fight bravely and under difficult circumstances, but the cost of this war has been too high. Now it is time to bring home the brave warriors serving in Afghanistan.”
