WASHINGTON, DC -- Representative Ed Markey (D-MA), a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement on the tragic bombings of a commuter train in India:

"The people of India are in our thoughts and prayers today.  These violent acts of terror using their commuter trains during rush hour are abhorrent and should serve as another wake-up call to the Bush Administration, which has nickel and dimed homeland security, that we are not doing nearly enough to guard against a terrorist attack on our mass transit systems here at home.  After London, Madrid, and now Mumbai, any one of America's cities could be next on the terrorists' target list and we must put the focus and resources into protecting critical passenger rails."
