Washington (October 20, 2015) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement about the recent wave of deadly attacks in Israel.

“I am deeply concerned about the escalation of cruel and heinous attacks in Israel, including the use of inflammatory language to deliberately incite violence and attacks on holy sites. My sympathies go out to the families of the victims of these attacks. I call on Palestinian leaders, and leaders throughout the region, to immediately denounce this violence and call for its end. And I urge Secretary Kerry, Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas to use their upcoming meetings to call on all communities to refrain from rhetoric that incites violence and promotes terror.

“Peace between Israel and Palestine will only result from a process of engagement and negotiation, not from attacks and violence on innocent civilians. It is critical that leaders make a new commitment to a negotiated agreement so that future generations of Israelis and Palestinians can live side-by-side in peace.”
