Washington (September 30, 2013) - Senator Edward J. Markey (DMass.), chairman of the International Development Subcommittee of the Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after voting to send on the nomination of Caroline Kennedy to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Japan to the full Senate for confirmation:

"President Kennedy served on the Foreign Relations Committee when he served in the Senate, and I am honored to now vote in that same committee to support his daughter Caroline's nomination to be the next Ambassador to Japan. Her intelligence and commitment to public service will make her an excellent ambassador supporting our important relationship with our key ally, Japan."
