Senator calls for comprehensive immigration reform to help grow US economy, create pathway to citizenship

Washington (August 2, 2017) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement blasting President Donald Trump's endorsement of the RAISE Act, legislation introduced today by Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.).

"The United States is a nation of immigrants. Immigrants built this great land and now fuel our economy. The RAISE Act would undermine our economic growth and betray our long-held values by punishing legal immigrants and refugees. Instead of focusing on xenophobic half measures, the Trump administration should support comprehensive immigration reform and help create a pathway to citizenship for the millions of immigrants who are our family members, neighbors, co-workers and friends."
