Washington (October 26, 2015)- Senator Edward J. Markey, member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation issued the following statement:

“Today, PHMSA took an important step toward protecting safety in our skies by prohibiting e-cigarettes from checked bags.  The 2014 fire at Logan International Airport that was started by an e-cigarette in a passenger’s luggage that was being transferred from one airplane’s cargo hold to another made clear the danger posed by these devices.  I plan to continue to work to ensure airline passenger and crew safety remains our top priority.”
