Lawmakers call MA installations Hanscom, Natick, Westover, Fort Devens, Air Station Cape Cod, Sector SE New England “country’s leading defense industrial cluster”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, led by Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-Malden), dean of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation, the entire Massachusetts House delegation sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta requesting a briefing on a possible round of base realignments and closures as announced in the Department’s fiscal year 2013 budget priorities.

“As you may know, Massachusetts is home to critical military installations of vital importance to our national defense,” wrote the lawmakers in the letter to Secretary Panetta. “The extraordinary intellectual and technical assets in this region have created the country’s leading defense industrial cluster, which would be impossible to recreate elsewhere.”
