Senator led letter with 29 Senators calling for extension of vital tax credit currently not included in tax renewal package

WASHINGTON (April 1, 2014) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today renewed his call to include a vital tax credit for wind energy in the package of tax extensions that will be considered this week in the Finance Committee. The Production Tax Credit, which has driven tens of billions of dollars in private investment and helped to create tens of thousands of jobs in the wind industry, is not currently included in the tax extenders package.

Last week, Senator Markey led a letter with 28 of his colleagues calling for the inclusion of this credit in their tax package. That letter can be found HERE.

“It may be April Fools’ Day, but what’s not a joking matter is the tens of thousands of American wind energy jobs at risk if we don’t act to help them now,” said Senator Markey. “We must renew the Production Tax Credit and put Americans back to work building our clean energy future.”

Wind installations plummeted by more than 90 percent last year as the PTC faced expiration. Not renewing this credit would put 80,000 American jobs at risk in nearly every state.
