Markey Joins Rock Icons to Beat Back New Nuke Subsidies, Push Clean Energy Bill

Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Graham Nash Push for Energy Bill Without Billions for Nuclear Power


Chairman Edward J. Markey will join music icons Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Graham Nash and leading environmental groups for a press conference in Washington DC next Tuesday, October 23rd at 10:00 am in support of the Energy Bill currently pending in Congress. As part of their “Nuke Free” campaign (www.nukefree.org), the musicians will deliver a message that supports the strong portions of the bill—renewable energy, efficiency, fuel economy, and other provision—and opposes expensive loan guarantees that would be used for the building of the first nuclear power plants. The petition has been signed by several artists including R.E.M., Ben Harper, Maroon 5, Pearl Jam, Patti Smith, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Earle, Natalie Maines and Emily Robinson of the Dixie Chicks, Keb’ Mo’ and Don Henley.
